Yeah, it was his B-day yesterday wasn't it? How old is he now? I
think he's 10 or 11 years older than me so he must be about 74 or 75.
And he's Canadian, so Uncle Dave will want to celebrate. ☺

I think he turned 75. I guess he just passed out on stage recently!

Hehehe. A very common ailment when you're living on the road. I
gotta admit that I was never all that wild about his singing, but the
man is definitely one of the best songwriters of all time. His lyrics
paint the most amazing images imaginable. Anybody who isn't blown
away every time they hear Joni Mitchell sing 'Suzanne' is already
brain-dead. He also does one helluva good job of arranging (listen to
all of the incredibly subtle rythmic shit going on in 'Waiting for the
Miracle'). I hope he keeps writing for another half-century.

Sad thing is, it sounds just like TJ. He always thinks he has to go for
the shock value. I would expect no other comment on something like th
is from him. Pretty predictable.

I will not deny that my stuff is often predictable. What's
sickening is that I know this and still let it go. This is either
very selfish or very lonely. Or both. But whatever it is, I can
assure you there are two sides to every coin. While it is true that I
occasionally go for shock, it is equally true that some people go
overboard for kissing the ass of every celebrity that comes along.
Ok, big deal, so you like Leonard Cohen, take it to a concert or go
home and strap on the ear phones and dig upon the grooved-out poetry
of his words and music while gazing at his poster taped against a
nearby wall. My shock value humor as well as my tendency to drift too
often toward it are signs of lack of creativity, I will admit. But
sometimes my actions are inspired by the equally uncreative actions of
others. Cohen is alright, I like some of his stuff. But I can't
imagine going to see him live. I can't imagine myself doing that with
anyone. The one positive thing I can say about Leonard Cohen is that
no one will ever die in a stampede at one of his concerts. But
imagine if that did happen. Then Leonard writes a song about it and
dedicates it to Bob from the alt.life.sucks newsgroup.

Predictable can be good. Whenever they see a post from you, everyone
knows that they will be able to laugh at you about it. There is a
certain 'herd mentality' to it, but it's also a comforting piece of
knowledge.

I actually love his voice. He's a lot like Bob Dylan in my eyes. Wrote a
lot of great songs,a lot of which are better in cover versions. Waiting
for the Miracle is one of my favorite Cohen songs(along with Tower
Song,Sisters of Mercy,and Lady Midnight)....Helijuia(sp???) is a great
song to,but I like Jeff Buckley's version better. Kinda like
Dylan/Hendrix All Along the Watchtower or Dylan/Van Morrison It's all
Over Now Baby Blue. His raspy voice comes across great in most of his
stuff though IMO.
I wanted to go see him this tour....it was $175 for one crap seat
though! I needed at least 2 crap seats!

He's part of the super-secret 'Social Engineering' government
discussed by None elsewhere. His lyrics actually make people think in
a certain way.
