So got that 'antivirus xp 2008' malware and managed to abort it in short
order. Now I have two trojans that my virus scan won't find. Firewall
keeps inquiring about them...can anyone help get rid of these?

Not being able to sit down and check it out is a hinderance in being able to
diagnose what's going on. The only way I know to get rid of something like
that is getting good AV software or formatting your hard drive and
re-installing Windows. If you end up re-installing the OS, I would recommend
installing Unbuntu Linux and forget about Windows; it's awful. You can save
your files that you need and hose the hard drive. Linux can read music,
photos, and even Office documents, which might be important to you. There's
no reason to put up with Windows when there is a viable alternative and all
the software is FREE! Good luck anyway.

Have you tried Hijack this or something like ad-aware?

Can't remember where this quote came from, but I can never resist to
mention whenever there's a change. Although I agree with you, only if
you have the time and interest to start learning a new OS. I can't be
bothered to try out any Linux distribution, simply because it will take
me too much time and effort to learn it, when I only want to work on my
PC. And I know Windows (unfortunately) so I stick to that.

Actually, Ubuntu is easier to use than Windows in my opinion. Once you get
used to the GUI, it's pretty simple. If you choose Kubuntu (the KDE) desktop,
then it's set up just like Windows except it's much more stable and you
needn't worry with spyware and viruses. No registry either, so your computer
will not slow down and eventually crash and burn the way Windows machines do.
Open Office files can read and edit files from Micro$oft Office, so now
there's no reason to have to put up with crummy software that costs a lot of
money. Pan is a pretty decent newsreader, so you'll still be able to post
here. I think Bob might be on AOL, so you're kinda screwed there because
there isn't a Linux version of that to my knowledge,

I used a program called trojan eliminator or something...fixed a bunch
of shite...still getting firewall messages of various trojans whenever I
open the net though. <sigh>
